Leaders of change
A series of training courses to help you gain new skills and knowledge about working in social networks, as well as about the international and national legal norms governing it. Graduates of the project were able to apply for mini-grants to launch communication campaigns in social networks, as well as receive mentoring support when launching them and developing a fundraising strategy.
We know that human rights defenders are an important part of Kazakhstani society, but very often their work remains in the shadows. The reasons may be different: an inactive presence on social networks, a small audience, rare mentions in the media.
We want to change this!
To ensure that as many people in Kazakhstan as possible know about Human Rights organizations and civic initiatives, understand the importance of their work, and support them.

Within the framework of the project, we offered Human Rights defenders and activists to gain new skills and knowledge about working in social networks, as well as about the international and national legal norms governing it.

As part of the SMM school, human rights defenders and activists learned how to communicate as effectively as possible with their audience on social networks. They studied how to create an effective communication strategy, learned to understand and engage their audience, created relevant content and navigate through formats, and promoted their projects using social media business tools.
OFFLINE LEARNING
SMM and Communication Strategies School
The second school will train human rights defenders and activists to use videos effectively in campaigns promoting human rights. Course participants will learn how to create and distribute a video that attracts an audience. They will also learn how to write technical assignments, determine the correct format for disclosing a topic, balance opportunities with deadlines, optimize and promote, as well as speak the same language with technical specialists and set tasks for them.

As part of our project, we will also invite human rights defenders and activists to take part in a series of short trainings that will help them learn more about international and national legal regulations governing the digital space, as well as the challenges and threats that human rights defenders may face while working on social media.

Training participants will learn about what digital rights and freedoms are and how they are regulated by international and Kazakhstan's law. This will help them ensure their own information security and protect the rights of their audience.

Human rights and freedoms, also known as digital rights, moved to the Internet following people. Digital law is one of the most complex and controversial categories in the legal field. Like the Internet, digital rights are global and can simultaneously affect public law, private law and the law of several countries.
Most of Kazakhstan's citizens still lack digital literacy at a sufficient level, which, as a result, leads to the violation of their rights and freedoms. This problem may be even more urgent for human rights organizations and NGOs, for which the protection of digital rights often overlaps with such problems as the criminalization of free speech on the Internet and the blocking of websites and platforms.

TRAINING "HATE SPEECH"

Hate speech (also known as language of hatred) is a broad concept that has no universal definition. In a broad sense, hate speech is understood as any speech that negatively characterizes representatives of vulnerable groups, based on prejudices and stereotypes. Hate speech can take many forms, from spoken and written to gestures, symbols, pictures, music and videos.
The lack of a universal definition of the term is explained by the difficulties in assessing this or that communication as hateful. Hate speech often hides manifestations of racism, homophobia, sexism and other forms of discrimination, but not every unpleasant or offensive speech is hate speech. Hate speech is only considered hate speech when it contains discriminatory hostility towards individuals or groups because of their identity.
In our training "Hate Speech", human rights defenders and activists will be able to learn more about the concept of hate speech, get acquainted with examples of hate speech, clichés and stereotypes and learn how to define them. As part of the training, students will also get acquainted with the ethical aspects of communication on the Internet, which will help them in working with the audience of their accounts on social networks.

For human rights defenders, activists and NGOs whose public activities are closely related to online communications, cybersecurity is an especially pressing issue. Insufficient information security or ignorance of the basics of working on the Internet can lead to theft of data of the organization or its employees and infection with malware. In the realities of the modern world, cybersecurity and digital hygiene are key conditions for the work of both individuals and organizations.
To improve cybersecurity and digital hygiene, you need to know how to use technology and information correctly.
