The animated videos created as part of the campaign by SMM.JAZz alumnus Miras Nurmukhanbetov highlighted the problems that Kazakhstani journalists face while performing their professional duty. These include threats, attacks, detentions and lawsuits, among others.

Informational campaign on journalists security 'Be safe, colleague!'

This campaign was launched as part of the activities of Gerlita PF, which works to improve the lives of different groups of people living with HIV, namely people who inject drugs, people involved in sex work, men who have sex with men, and transgender people.

The campaign was led by SMM.JAZz alumna Zarina Ospanova, who covered such issues as protection from STIs and HIV, getting rapid tests, relationships with a partner with a positive HIV status and informing your employer about your HIV status.

Increasing awareness among MSM group about the availability of rapid HIV testing in Pavlodar district

This campaign was launched by SMM.JAZz participant Ilya Barakhovsky and highlighted the problem of lack of access to clean water in the villages of Voshod-Vodny. As a result of this campaign, local authorities held public hearings on the construction of a water pipeline in the villages outside of Semey and regularly inform local residents about it.

As part of the campaign, Alisher Khasengaliev, a graduate of the online training project "Leaders of Change," highlighted the problem of violations of the rights of schoolchildren and university students. By developing the Telegram bot AdamUniBot, Alisher created a tool for collecting and processing requests, which are sent to specialists and organizations independent of the administration of educational institutions, which are able to provide solutions to the problems of students' rights violations in educational institutions.

As part of this campaign, Sholpan Zhumakova, a graduate of SMM.JAZz school, highlighted cases of political imprisonment in Kazakhstan and the world. Heroes of the campaign were such political prisoners as Zh. Mamay, Y. Yelshibayev and D. Namazbayev. The information campaign was implemented on YouTube (two clips were shot in Kazakh and Russian and one clip only in Kazakh) and Instagram.

Information campaign to support political prisoners

The focus of the information campaign of the project Teenager Kazakhstan was the destigmatization of children and adolescents with HIV positive status in Kazakhstan. As part of the campaign, the project's audience was able to gain insight into the lives of HIV+ children and adolescents, and the discrimination that results from stigma around their status. On the sites of Teenager Kazakhstan's social media accounts, stories were published about HIV+ adolescents and their parents.

As part of this campaign, Askar Aktleuov, a graduate of the SMM.JAZz school, raised the importance of journalists' access to information that must be provided by government agencies. The publications were devoted to the procedure for providing information, its sources, deadlines for providing it and samples of requests to government agencies. Infocampaign was placed on the platforms of the Legal Media Center, the International Public Foundation "Әdil sөz" and media NGO "Tilshi".

This campaign helped highlight human rights violations among Kazakhstani conscripts and servicemen, which citizens face on a regular basis. The information campaign raised issues such as suicides among servicemen, torture and violence in the army, and preconditions for dangerous situations.

The "Comment 404" info-campaign by Zhaniya Khairova, an alumna of the online trainings of the "Leaders of Change" project, highlighted the issue of hate speech in the Internet space. As part of the publication, the audience was able to learn about forms of hate speech, ways to respond to hateful comments, as well as about responsibility for spreading hate speech.

An information campaign by Video.JAZz alumnus Shyngys Ualikhan urges civic activists to monitor city budget spending through the public procurement website. The video launched as part of the campaign urges activists to visit the website, which contains instructions on how to find information about city budget expenditures on the state portal goszakupgov.kz.

The #PROPRAVA information campaign was launched as a series of stories about journalists, bloggers, and activists who encounter rights violations while performing their professional and civic duties.

The information campaign of Video.JAZz alumna Asel Zhatkanbai is dedicated to the prevention of sexualized violence against children. Often parents of children who are victims of sexualized violence do not understand what to do next. The information campaign "Hear Me, Mother", posted in the account of the voluntary initiative "QORGAN", is aimed at improving the literacy of parents on the prevention of sexualized violence against children.

In Kazakhstan, sexualized harassment is prosecuted under the administrative code article on disorderly conduct. The same article, for example, is used to prosecute people who throw trash in public places. The maximum penalty for this article is 30 days of arrest, even though victims of harassment often suffer from psychological trauma and no longer feel safe.

The account of the anti-discrimination initiative Myqty Women features an information campaign by Video.JAZz alumnus Nurmahan Tastaybek for the criminalization of harassment. Campaign posts tell the stories of people who have faced sexualized harassment and explain why harassment should be criminalized.

Information campaign for stiffer penalties for harassment

The information campaign of Video.JAZz alumna Anastasia Bilokon is aimed at eliminating the stigma and discrimination against women from groups of PLHIV, PWID and IDPs in Almaty, where no crisis center accepts women from the abovementioned groups. There are no services or counseling centers in Almaty with specialists who have the skills to work with this group. The information campaign is intended to attract attention to this problem not only to the general public, but also to state bodies, with the help of which it is possible to partially influence the inflow of orphanages, the growth of unwanted pregnancy, the growth of violence, the growth of suicides, and other criminogenic situations in the country.

Information campaign to reduce stigma and discrimination against women from groups of PLHIV, PWID, IDUs (living with HIV, drug users and released from prison)

The information campaign of activist Rufit Akhmedzyanov, a graduate of Video.JAZz school, is aimed at highlighting the inaccessibility of social facilities in the towns and villages of East Kazakhstan region for people with disabilities. As part of the campaign, the activist produced a series of videos in which characters with disabilities talk about the challenges they face in their daily lives.

Human rights defenders, lawyers, and activists defend the rights of thousands of people. Because of the specific nature of their work, they face violations of their own rights, namely threats, attacks, and harassment. The information campaign of Video.JAZz alumna Indira Kakimova calls for the adoption of the draft Law on the National Mechanism for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, developed by human rights defenders themselves.
